Dr. Bernd Welz is the Chief Knowledge Officer at SAP. As Executive Vice-President, he heads the global SAP Knowledge unit in SAP SE, where he is responsible for the transfer of knowledge around SAP products and technologies to SAP experts and users at customers, partners and communities. Under his leadership, digital learning platforms have been successfully introduced which extended the reach for SAP knowledge into a new dimension.
Another key topic for Dr. Welz is the “SAP University Alliances program”. Not only does the program provide institutions with learning materials and access to SAP technology, it also offers an open innovation platform for universities, SAP customers, and partners. The aim of the Next-Gen program is to bring professors, students, and companies together to learn and innovate using real digital transformation projects.
Dr. Welz is a member of the “Digitalisierung in Bildung und Wissenschaft” (Digitization in Education and Science) platform, chaired by Federal Minister Prof. Dr. Wanka, and on the advisory board of the “Digital Hub Initiative” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. He also serves on the advisory board of University Heidelberg.
Dr. Welz began his career at SAP in 1997 and has been a member of the Senior Executive team since 2003. Prior to this, he worked as a business consultant for Roland Berger & Partner in Germany and England.
Dr. Welz has a Master’s of Science in Computer Science, majoring in machine learning, from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst USA, and was awarded a PhD in the field of artificial intelligence from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 1994.
